Arizona College Application Campaign (AzCAC)
The goal of the Arizona College Application Campaign (AzCAC) is to increase the number of low-income students who apply to at least one institution of higher education during their senior year in high school. The steps taken to accomplish this goal will assist in building a college-going culture in Arizona’s high schools that benefits students, their families, and the community. A college-going culture would include the expectation that ALL Seniors submit an application to at least one postsecondary institution in the Fall and submit a Free Application for Financial Student Aid or FAFSA in the early Spring.
Across Arizona high schools are building a college-going community where a cohort approach among peers supports first-generation and low-income students. These schools are stepping up to advise and guide seniors, who may not have a knowledgeable adult to help them, and their families through the challenging milieu of decisions and timelines related to college transition.
During the school day, AzCAC high school host sites set aside time with computers and internet access for all seniors to complete applications. Each high school selects the times/days that fit the needs of the students and school. The Commission provides tips and resources for the sites to help make their events a success.
