The college admissions process can be daunting. The goal of AzCAC is that all Arizona high school seniors complete at least ONE college/university, community college, or vocational training application.
High schools across the state are stepping up to advise and guide seniors and their families through this challenging milieu of decisions and timelines. They are building a college-going community where staff lead a cohort approach among peers, and support first-generation students as they apply to a postsecondary institution.
During the school day in November, AzCAC host sites set aside time with computer and internet access for all seniors to complete applications. Each high school selects the times/days that fit the needs of the students and school.
AzCAC host sites set a goal that 100% of all graduating seniors will fill out AT LEAST one application to a postsecondary institution including vocational training by the end of November.
In November of 2016, nearly fifty high schools with more than 13,000 seniors led by school staff will complete the process of preparing, informing, and motivating students toward submitting, on time, a college application.
The Commissioners were inspired by the American College Application Campaign, led by the American Council on Education. In 2013, 250,000 applications were filed across 39 states as a result of encouragement and guidance from the American Council on Education, (ACE). ACE received financial support from the Lumina Education Foundation and The Kresge Foundation to do this work.
